I also believe Chattam was the strongest player at the combine.

Was just looking at you capspace and you guys are going to have a crap ton of money to spend. Granted you have a lo of RFA's and Palmeri probably gets something like 6x6

Besides that you're losing

Elias 5.5
Ruutu 3.8

A few others that should equal 2-3 milion more in space.

How big of a spender is your gm/owner? Could you guys go after some of the bigger f/a's this off season?

We could. Owner has green lit whatever Shero needs from what I understand. Not sure that it's a good idea right now though. Still a ways to go before this team is seriously competitive. They aren't as close to a playoff team as their finish in the standings would suggest. Schneider and a hot power play kept them in it for most of the year.

Right now they have 40 million spent and 6 RFAs to sign, the only one of which will really have any significant cost is Palmieri. Included in that 49 mil is Clowes 5 mil that can be moved to IR at the beginning of the year.

They need a top 4 LHD and some scoring, particularly some depth that can bring scoring beyond the top two lines. Problem is, there's not much help in this years UFA class. Shero has made some smart moves so I don't see him spending like crazy this offseason, but they do need to make some signings just to get above cap floor.

I figured Chatham would have been resigned with hopes of fourth line duties, guess not.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Shero attempt to bring in Yandle.

I don't see that happening. I see him going after Goliogoski, which I don't love, since they have the Pittsburgh connection he's shown he loves.

I would like to see us try. Now if they players want to sign here is another thing. Our best bet is to bring in young guys who want to be here and are excited about what's going on here. We need Palms to tell his buddies Jersey is a blast same with Schneider lol We need to build off last season to help attract future players. Right now there is almost no reason for Stamkos to sign with the Devils unless he is the biggest secret Devils fan there is all we could offer him is money and that puts us in the same boat as a lot of teams. The sponsorship money he would make in Toronto alone would like pay him more then what we could on a contract lol. I would like us to take a stab at Okposo and yes Lucic because I love that type of player but still seems unlikely that they choose us. I can see us swinging some deals at the draft and do more via trade then free agency, although Ray might look for another John Moore type signing.

We'll see. Perhaps we can use that cap space to help out a team in cap trouble and get some assets in the process....

I actually think the ability to house bad contracts IS our biggest asset heading into the summer.

For the draft, I am thinking I want Keller or Gauthier. Might be able to trade down a little bit for the big winger, but it would be risky.

If Keller goes before we pick it might not be a bad idea. If they trade down to 14 or 15 and maybe pick up a second rounder one of Gauthier or Brown should still be there.

Brown isn't going to last beyond the top 15, and I'd be surprised if he lasted that long.

Picking up an extra second to move down 3 spots would be ideal. Not sure what the usual cost is for something like that. I wouldn't mind brown, but keep hearing he's soft for his size. I'd love keller. I just really don't want a dman, but if it's bpa, I wouldn't be too upset. Well see.

I can only imagine people call him soft because he is 6'6" and doesn't blast people on every shift. Everything I read says he has a very high hockey IQ, very strong puck possession, great passer, good speed and a decent shot. As a plus he's a 53% face off guy. A few things you can't teach, size and speed and he has both. Keller is probably the more exciting and offensively gifted player.

I'd love to see a line of Zacha- Brown- Palmieri at some point though. Put those 3 in a good forecheck system and it would be pretty hard to deal with.

The face off thing would be a huge plus. I guess it somewhat matters on if they see zacha as a wing or c in the future, but not a huge deal either way. A great passer/playmaker would be sweet to set up some shooters thay we have. Great point on the size and speed, I think brown or keller is the way to go, as we really don't have a bona-fide playmaker. Zacha looks like he can be, but with his quick release shot I think I'd prefer him to be more of a shoot first. Either way with all the moves Shero has made in only a year, it'd hard not to trust his judgement.

See that's my only fear with Brown. I think we all love the idea of a 6'6 ppg nhl centerman but the worry is always with big guys is will they still be able to play a skill game at the NHL or with they have to alter their game and get less offensive. I also look at how many players in the league are 6'6 and how good any of them are lol There is like Hanzal and Bjugstad that are pretty solid and they aren't even legit number one centers and we don't even know if he will be as good as these two as I fear 6'6 might be just a tad to large to make an elite player in todays nhl ( forward anyway ) Now don't get me wrong I don't think he would be a horrible pick and he has enough potential but I have really been sold on someone who is more offensive like Keller if he is even available when we pick we will have to see but I really wouldn't mind drafting Gauthier they say he is 6'4 and 220 or 230 already and is considered an elite skater with a big shot. I would love to see Zacha and Gauthier flying down the wings for years to come but either way we should be happy with who we get and someone will drop so we will see
